SUBMARINE BATTERIES

The battery is the life of a diesel-electric submarine while underwater. The battery gives a submarine it all its power while submerged and is part of the subs ballast. Each battery cell is about 14 x 17 inches and 48 inches high and weighs about 975 pounds. Each cell give off 2V and there are 124 batteries per cell bank giving a nominal voltage of 440 volts. Submarine batteries are water cooled to prevent over-heating.
